For a dose of history, visit the Confederate Museum, which is housed in a stone Romanesque style building. The oldest museum in Louisiana, the Confederate Museum opened to the public in 1891. Today it features the second largest Civil War collection in the world. On display are more than 100 original battle flags, confederate soldiers? regalia and uniforms, as well as a number of Civil War weapons and swords and much more.

The Historic New Orleans Collection is housed in a complex of French Quarter buildings, and the museum chronicles the history of the city. The complex is comprised of four structures ? the Merieult House, built in the 1700s; the Counting House, constructed 1794-95; the Williams Residence, which dates back to 1889; and the three-story Maisonette.

The French Quarter and Bourbon Street area was settled in 1718 and today offers a variety of sightseeing activities. Stroll along the Mississippi River or take a walking tour and peer through iron gates at hidden courtyards. The St. Louis Cathedral is a visible part of New Orleans? vast Catholic history. Established in 1794, this is the oldest active cathedral in the US. In 1964, the cathedral was given the status of minor basilica, one of only 15 in the US.
Voodoo Museum

The New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum educates visitors on the spiritual practice of voodoo and its history in New Orleans. Visitors can view voodoo artifacts and sacred objects, and take guided swamp, plantation and cemetery tours. The gift shop stocks voodoo dolls, love potions, T-shirts and more.
Beauregard-Keyes House

The Beauregard-Keyes House is a 19th-century mansion, once the home of Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard, and where novelist Frances Keyes penned 40 novels. Tours are available of the home, which also features beautiful walled garden.
Custom House

The Custom House was built in 1849, occupies one whole block and is a major city landmark. The building has identical entrances on all four sides, and visitors are welcome to look around.
